Hawk continued to load the vehicle, and Turtle turned his attention to other details, leaving the rest of the equipment in the boy’s strong hands.

Reynolds walked up behind Hawk, smoking a cigarette. His body was covered in scars except for his left arm which was deformed. Half the size of his muscular right arm, the left was thin, pale, and feeble, ending just below the elbow with three child-size fingers growing from the end. He used his small left arm to take the cigarette from his mouth. Exhaling smoke, Reynolds asked Hawk in a thick accent, “Any luck, kid?”
